The BCS has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer

Following a competitive recruitment process, the BCS has appointed Caroline Langley, currently Chief Executive of the British Psychoanalytical Society, a role she has held since December 2018, and where she is responsible for strategy, governance and finance along with day-to-day operations.

Caroline is an accomplished Chief Executive with extensive experience across healthcare and professional membership societies. Prior to her role as Chief Executive of The British Psychoanalytical Society, she was Director of Education at The Royal Society of Medicine for eight years, with responsibility for leading the development of education strategy, stakeholder relations, revenue generation and continuing professional development.

Before that, she held managerial positions in NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts.  Caroline has a Master’s degree in Health Services Management, and is a Trustee of South Bucks Hospice and of The Beacon School Bursary Fund. Due to a three-month notice period, Caroline will begin her new role on 27 November 2023.

She said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the new CEO of the BCS.  It will be a privilege to join such a committed and passionate team and I look forward to progressing the work of the BCS over the coming years.’

Caroline will replace Rachael O’Flynn, who has been the BCS CEO for over seven years, leading on a modernisation agenda for the society, and who has driven a series of significant strategic and organisational improvements over that time. Rachael will be taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK, a joint body of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Royal College of Physicians of London. The Federation jointly manages examinations, training, and CPD on behalf of the three colleges.
